First Time Trying Essential Oils: Products I’ve Used So Far

Hello My Beautiful People!

I feel like I have just been a terrible blogger. I wanted to try so hard to put out two blog posts a week, and I just failed. But you know what? I am not going to get down on myself. I will just make it a goal for September to post twice a week. And I will crush that goal. So this is me, putting that goal out into the universe, and writing it down so that all of you wonderful humans can help hold me accountable. Also, I have a ton of ideas for posts that I want to write, I think I am just having a tough time sitting down and writing. I am currently on team #nomotivation and I will touch on that more in a later post. But let’s get onto what this post is actually going to be about…

Essential Oils

Before we even jump into what I am using them for, or which ones I love, let me give you a little bit of backstory. I have been exposed to Essential Oils for a huge portion of my life, but I NEVER used them until recently. I always thought that oils didn’t work, and didn’t understand how putting oil on myself or just smelling oils could help me in any way. I thought that it was all in people’s heads. That essential oils only worked because people had this thought in their brains that they work. I thought that it was all a mental game, or just a placebo effect. Until recently.

Last September…

I had to take a trip to my Gastroenterologist because I was having reoccurring stomach and intestinal pain, which was out of the ordinary for me. A couple weeks earlier I had cut out different foods and assessed what was contributing to the bloating and the pain, but even after doing that I was still having pain and was so distended I looked pregnant. At the appointment, I explained all of my issues to my GI, and how I tried to fix them with food. And after listening to me ramble on and seeing how distended I was, she suggested that I take an over the counter medication called “IB Gard”. What is IB Gard you ask? Literally just capsules of peppermint oil. That’s all. So I started taking peppermint supplements, and they started working, but I had literally no clue that that’s what I was doing. I thought that it was just a pill for my pain. This experience with using a peppermint pill to soothe my pain made me a lot more open to using different types of oils just to see if they could help with reducing my pain in other areas.

Fast Forward to Last Week…

I was gifted a Young Living Essential Oils starter kit. Now this is something in the past I would have never been open to trying. But I really want to live the life of natural health goddess, and I think that using essential oils will help me do that. So after I got my starter kit, the first thing I did was set up the diffuser and just let it run in my room. I have never used a diffuser before, but I love burning candles…and apparently that is bad for my health…so I figured diffusing essential oils would make my room smell amazing, and some aromatherapy would maybe help me feel a little less stressed, and like I have my life together (which, newsflash, I still don’t). I opened up the diffuser, and put in a couple drops of none other than Stress Away. From the name of the oil, I figured that it would help me to feel less stressed, and if it didn’t do that, at least my room would smell amazing. I diffused it pretty much all day Friday, and overall I would say I just really liked the smell. I think I am too stressed at this very moment for anything to make me feel less stressed, but I definitely give the smell a 10/10.

Other Products I Tried…

I already knew that peppermint helped to soothe some of my tummy issues. So it was no shock to me that when I took Young Living’s Digest and Cleanse, which has peppermint in it, that I would feel some relief. I took it before eating, like I would with my other peppermint pills, and I found that it helped me to feel less bloated after eating. I also used the Allerzyme capsules a couple times after having some tummy pain after eating too much. The kind that I had wasn’t in capsule form, but in a packet that I just poured into some water. It pretty much acts like Alka-seltzer, and I actually think it really helped me. So I definitely liked that one, and would recommend to anyone that can get bloated, or is prone to indigestion. Another thing that I didn’t try, but I am sure would work for people with sensitive tummies would be to apply the peppermint oil topically. I have heard the peppermint oil can also help to relieve some headache pains, so that is something I will have to test out when my next headache comes alone.

Overall

I definitely have a lot of stuff to try, and I will keep you all updated on what I use and how I like it. I think that I will try to put out a blog post about what I have been trying every other week. But I like the things that I tried. And I absolutely love that they smell amazing. 1. I’m REALLY suspicious of Young Living and companies like it that use MLM as their business model. However, that said, a friend gave a small roller of their Thieves Oil when I was ill earlier this year and it did work wonders, so there is something to be said for the principle of using essential oils.

    • I was suspicious of the validity of even using oils for so long, so I totally get where you’re coming from. Like any company and product it has pros and cons, but I do think in a lot of cases the oils are beneficial

  2. I have used Young Living essential oils for several years with confidence that they are pure and safe because that company takes control of the entire process.

  3. I keep wanting to try essential oils, but it’s so hard to choose which ones to get.

    • I don’t want this to come off sales-ey but, the starter kit from Young Living gets you a diffuser, 11 oils, and some other things to try. That’s what I did, because I had no idea what smells I even liked.
