Protein Balls: The Perfect Snack

Hello My Wonderful Followers!

I told you I would be trying out, and posting more recipes, and here I am, posting more recipes. I know, you must all be very shocked that I am following through. But I have to be super honest with you guys, after my first try making protein balls with Vital Proteins, I fell in love with the idea of protein balls. Is that weird? That I fell in love with the idea of a snack? Am I crazy? Yeah, maybe. But I have all this protein powder in my house and I make protein shakes maybe once a week, in a good week. So all my powder just kind of sits there, not fueling up my muscles. It’s really a sad life for my protein powders…

And…

That is why I am so happy that I discovered these snacks, and how stupid easy they are to make! They have three base ingredients, and then after that you can add whatever the heck you want! They are super customizable, and full of protein and healthy fats! Woo Hoo! The perfect kind of snack for before or after a workout, or just snack time in general. If you follow me on Instagram (@marg.fitness) then you know I eat protein balls like pretty much everyday. Mostly because I love them, but also because I am a crazy snack lady who constantly needs to be fed.

The Recipes:

I made two different types of protein balls, with two different kinds of protein powders because ya girl loves variety, and is riding the gainz train all the way to gainzville. For the first recipe I used Muscle Pharm Cookies and Cream protein. This is a protein powder that I got over Spring Break after I had done that boxing workout with my friend Aaron. He brought this powder up with him, and made me try it and I kind of fell in love with it. I am not a big protein powder person, but this stuff is so good. It has literal chunks of cookie in it, gluten free of course, and tastes so sweet. And of course, I had this stuff once, and then saw it at Costco two days later and had to get the jumbo family of seven size. It has been three months and I still haven’t even really made a dent in this powder, which is why I needed to make some type of snack out of them.ย This recipe is so easy, a child could do it:

Ingredients:

  • 2 scoops MP protein powder
  • 1/2 cup cashew butter
  • 1/4 maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp. cacao nibs
  • 1 cup of shredded coconut, or coconut chips

Instructions:

This is where it gets stupid easy. Mix everything but the coconut together in a bowl. Once it is all mixed, roll the mixture into about tablespoon sized balls (or whatever size you want). Then roll the ball in the shredded coconut (it might not stick super well, but just try). Place the balls into a parchment paper lined tuperware container. The place the container into the freezer. Freeze until hard, then eat them all.

See? Simple.

Recipe 2:

I went back to my beloved Vital Proteins for this recipe. The last Vital Proteins balls that I made were really heavy on the peanut butter flavor, which was totally fine by me, I love peanut butter, but I wanted to make something that was a little more chocolatey. The last recipe only used 3 tablespoons of the Cocoa & Coconut Water Collagen Whey, and I wanted more than that. So essentially what I did was use the same recipe as above but I switched out the protein powder and the mix ins. And I decided to use cashew butter because I had read that it has a much more mild taste when compared to peanut butter, so it is not the dominant flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 2 scoops Vital Proteins Cocoa & Coconut Water Collagen Whey
  • 1/2 cup cashew butter
  • 1/4 honey (I had to mix honey and maple syrup because I ran out of honey)
  • 1/3 cup mashed up Green Tea nut blend
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened coconut strips
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips

Instructions:

The instructions are essentially the same as the other recipe. But before you mix everything together, put the nuts and the coconut strips into a bag and mash them up into smaller chunks, then mix it in with everything else. And I didn’t roll these in anything after rolling them into balls, but I suppose you could roll them in chia seeds or more coconut.

These recipes are both different because the protein powders both taste so different, but I love them both and they are the perfect treat!

Let me know if you try either of these recipes out, I would love to hear what you added in and what you thought!
